Independent Developers Xbox (ID @ Xbox) is a scheme initiated by Microsoft in 2014 that allows independent studios to publish their games on the Xbox ecosystem.
The announcement of the joint royalties comes from Chris Sharla, who was ID @ Xbox Director until 2018 and is now a partner in content and software creation at the company.
“Since the inception of the program, independent developers have earned more than $2.5 billion [£1.89 billion] in revenue, and the total revenue generated by ID@Xbox partners on Xbox has doubled over the past three years. These are amazing numbers, and they speak to the power of indie developers,” Charla wrote in a post on Xbox Wire.
Charla adds that because of the scheme, indie developers were able to give Microsoft direct feedback regarding its back-end deployment, allowing developers to ship their games more easily on both console and PC.
"We've also paid developers and publishers across Xbox hundreds of millions of dollars in Game Pass licensing fees," Charla adds, although no specific number is given here.
Although there are more than 3,000 indie games on Xbox, Charla notes that there is one area the team needs to improve playability and make it easier for players to discover games they might really enjoy.
Earlier in the month, an ID@Xbox livestream was also broadcast and a lot more games coming to Game Pass in the near future.
